Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme was a book cover freebie.
Like all readers, I have a certain preference when it comes to book covers (um hello a nice scripty font and a cute illustration). But sometimes I also really dislike a book’s cover. Below are ten books on my tbr that I wish had some different cover art. (Suffice to say I have nothing against the cover artist or author—these covers just don’t work for me.)
♥ Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise → those shoes, y’all 🤢
♥ Caca Dolce: Essays from a Lowbrow Life by Chelsea Martin → this is a legitimate eyesore jfc
♥ Consider This: Moments in My Writing Life After Which Everything Was Different by Chuck Palahniuk → the pencils as fingers just gives me the creeps
♥ If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch → I don’t like this photo and I definitely don’t like how much space it takes up
♥ Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn → this is a great example of how not all scripty fonts are the same
♥ Not Like the Movies by Kerry Winfrey → eyesore part ii (and I loved the cover for Waiting for Tom Hanks!)
♥ Scars like Wings by Erin Stewart → I don’t like this haircut and don’t like the combination of this pink with this blue
♥ Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-to Guide by Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark → there are way too many fonts on this (on top of me not liking any of them) and I really hate the pink circle with those stupid arrows
♥ 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston → the brick, the fact that the model’s eyes are closed, the balloons floating on top of nothing… 👎 (gimme the Portugese cover!)
♥ Time of Our Lives by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka → honestly very upset about this because I love the covers for Always Never Yours and If I’m Being Honest, but this one is so ugly in comparison 😩
If You Find Me… I’m not a fan of covers with a large face on the front either. It almost seems like a give-up. Great post!

Interesting. I don’t agree with you on all these, but I do on some. If you’ve read SCARS LIKE WINGS, you’ll understand the haircut. I’m not super wild about the cover, but considering the book is about people with severe burns on their bodies and faces, I’m not sure what kind of illustration would have been better …
Happy TTT!

Okay, I have to say, this is a very unique spin on the freebie! Kudos to you for doing it too.💕 I’m a mouse at heart permanently stuck in the ‘don’t want to say anything negative’ phase so really appreciate your candidness here.
Also, I agree with most of your choices. The cover of Bet Me did not appeal to me either and though I don’t dislike Love Lettering, it’s not my top fav.
Great post you got here! Have a great reading week. 😊

Yeah… it’s not the nicest I’ve ever been, but sometimes I’m just like whyyy. 😆

I have a thing about finger/toenails, ever since a traumatizing incident in high school. I will have to pretend I never saw that cover. I agree with you on most of the others too.

Oh no!! I kind of want to erase it from my brain, too.

Fortunately it hasn’t stuck with me like I thought it might. I think that’s because it was small enough. This was a great take on this week’s list, by the way!

Well.. I think at least Consider This is creative, if a bit freaky!

Yes! I actually like it a lot until I look too long. 😁

Yeah, I can see how these covers wouldn’t be that appealing. :)
