Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme was books I’m avoiding reading and why.

I’m avoiding Jerusalem and Infinite Jest because I know at 1,266 and 1,088 pages, respectively, they’re going to be a complete time suck.

I’m avoiding Columbine, A Little Life, and Trainspotting because I’m never in the right frame of mind to read a book about a school shooting, a book which literally everyone says will make me cry, or a book written in Scottish vernacular.

I’m avoiding An Absolutely Remarkable Thing and Sorcerer to the Crown because I’m trying to avoid starting any series that aren’t yet finished. (Even if I really want to read both!)

I’m avoiding An Abundance of Katherines, Divergent, and Just One Day because I feel like maybe I missed the optimal time frame in which to read these super hyped books. Like, is anyone still around who even wants to talk about them??

  1. It’s always a good time to talk about Just One Day!! It’s weird because I didn’t totally love it (I ended up liking the sequel more), but I couldn’t stop thinking about the duology afterward and I’m still like, “wow, what a story” 3 or 4 years later.

  2. I am absolutely right there with you about Columbine. I read a lot of emotionally charged, non-fiction, but I am just never in the right mindset for it fully. Funny story! I love Gayle Forman’s books but I’ve yet to read Just One Day and I literally JUST picked this one up at the thrift store yesterday. And had THE SAME THOUGHT.

    1. Haha—isn’t it weird when that happens??

I feel like Gayle Forman books kind of peaked when the If I Stay movie came out, and now she’s been lapped by all these other YA contemporary romance authors. I still can’t *quite* take it off my tbr, though. 😄
